/ˈnādl/
adjective
relating to the place or time of one's birth.
NATAL is a podcast docuseries about having a baby while Black in the United States. We pass the mic to Black parents to tell their stories about bringing new life into the world, in their own words. The docuseries also highlights the birthworkers, medical professionals, researchers, and advocates fighting daily for better care for Black birthing parents. Our growing digital community also includes the #NATALChats event series, The NATAL Summit, an online resource hub, and more.
Arriving Fall 2021, our second season explores what care looks like for Black birthing families across rural America. From pregnancy loss and abortion care, to childbirth and postpartum care, this 10-part series follows four Black parents -- in Mississippi, Iowa and Hawaii-- and their search for reproductive care.
Conceived and produced by a team of Black creatives and parents, NATAL is a media partner of Black Mamas Matter Alliance and supported by The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. The series is produced by You Had Me at Black and The Woodshaw.
You can listen to NATAL wherever you get your podcasts.
